Last Saturday we made plans to meet my best friend and her boyfriend at the California Strawberry festival in Oxnard. We decided to meet at 1:00PM; she was on time but we showed up at 3:00PM. I told her that one day when she has kids we will both show up at the same time. We had left home a little later than planned since we had to pack the diaper bag, get ready with a toddler, there was traffic, and a poopy diaper had to be change on the way. Also, we were starving so we had to stop to eat. My friend’s boyfriend suggested Toppers in Simi Valley (2408 Erringer Rd, Simi Valley, CA 93065) and it did not disappoint! They have a salad bar, pizzas, and sandwiches. We had a Medium pizza and devoured it all… side note, baby girl says “pittee” instead of pizza.
We got to the festival, and had to walk a good 10 minutes to the entrance. The entrance fee for us was $12 per adult and free for kids 2 and under. There were a lot of people there. Upon walking in, you can feel the fun vibes. There were many food stands, contests, rides, Arts and Crafts vendors, etc. We were supposed to meet my friend at the contest area. As we were walking to meet them, she texted me asking if she should buy me a ticket to get a pie thrown at my face… I replied saying no… one day she will know how precious and rare showers and good hair days are 😀
To sum up, the whole experience was fun; we walked around while catching up on life, tasted Fruli strawberry beer; it was not bad at first taste but I don’t think I can have a full cup of it. I got a virgin Pina Colada and pineapples for the kiddo, and my bestie got pineapples with chili powder called Tajin. We made our own strawberry shortcake, and danced/played by the stage. Baby girl’s highlight of the trip was eating whipped cream off the shortcake with her fingers and playing with a bean bag that you have to throw to make it inside a whole in a wooden board. That thing entertained her for so long that I think I need to get one at home. Also, my little girly danced to the music, rocked her head, and twirled around. She just has the cutest moves!
My bestie had to leave early, and we decided to leave too in order to explore a beach nearby and introduce the baby to the pacific (I will leave that for another blog post).
Final thought, it was a long drive, a hot day, and a crowded place, however it was so fun! I am so thankful for unconditional friendships and for friends who don’t change no matter how different your walks of life are from each other. But most of all, I am so glad that my bestie has found someone with a heart of gold just like hers.
I hope you are having a good Monday!
